WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Nevada Republicans expanded their baseless recall attempts to target a third woman state senator. While the GOP has yet to justify (or even explain) any reasoning for their recall announcements, Nevada political columnist Jon Ralston summed up the move as “desperate” and the Las Vegas Sun editorial board lambasted the GOP's dirty tricks as “an affront to Nevada voters” and “a power grab by a party that knows it can’t take back control of the Senate.” Two of the targeted state senators – Joyce Woodhouse and Nicole Cannizzaro – were endorsed by EMILY's List last cycle; with Woodhouse as part of an historic all-women ticket in Nevada. EMILYs List Executive Director Emily Cain issued the following statement:

“According to the Nevada Republicans’ playbook: If you can’t win an election fairly, then steal, steal, steal.

“It’s not an accident that Nevada Republicans are targeting only women state senators with their dirty political games.

“Women leaders like state Senators Joyce Woodhouse and Nicole Cannizzaro have been critical in passing legislation that benefits Nevada women and their families, including the Pregnant Workers' Fairness Act. Nevada women should take note.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
