WASHINGTON, D.C. – EMILY’s List’s WOMEN VOTE! voter mobilization program released the second television ad in support of Donna Edwards’ bid for Barbara Mikulski’s open U.S. Senate seat in Maryland. The ad, “Get Up” is part of a $1 million program highlighting Edwards’ progressive record of fighting for women and families and how the challenges she’s faced in her own life have helped shape those fights. “Get Up” will run concurrently with the first ad of the campaign, “Struggle.”
The ad is part of a six-week million-dollar paid media program that started on December 1st, 2015. The program targets African American women who vote in Democratic primaries in the Baltimore media market and is featured on broadcast television, addressable cable, digital streaming services, and radio.
SCRIPT: “Get Up”
Edwards: When people get up in the morning, they want to go to a good job, they want to take care of themselves and their children and meet their responsibilities.
And we have to make sure that we're doing the right thing by those families.
Narrator: As a single mom who struggled to make ends meet, Democrat Donna Edwards has lived our challenges.
That’s why she won’t back down to the special interests.
Taking on the NRA,
Refusing Wall Street’s cash,
And protecting women’s health.
That’s Democrat Donna Edwards. Maryland’s next Senator.

WOMEN VOTE! is EMILY’s List’s independent expenditure arm which works to educate and mobilize women voters on behalf of pro-choice Democratic women candidates, which helps turnout voters for Democrats up and down the ballot. Launched in 1995, the EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! project combines polling and research, sophisticated message testing, the latest innovations in data and technology as well as good old-fashioned voter contact to mobilize millions of women voters across the country.
In 2014, EMILY’s List had the largest WOMEN VOTE! program in the organization’s history spending $13.8 million in seven statewide races and 11 states total. Despite a rough election for Democrats, WOMEN VOTE! was able to help EMILY’s List add Democratic women in the House, hold on to a key Senate seat, and double the number of Democratic women governors.
