EMILY’s List Responds to Donald Trump’s Appointment of Rep. Tom Price
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This morning President-elect Donald Trump announced the appointment of Rep. Tom Price as secretary of health and human services. In response, Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, released the following statement:
"By appointing Rep. Tom Price as secretary of health and human services – someone who is vehemently anti-choice, opposed reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, and wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Donald Trump is jeopardizing the health of millions of American women and families."
"Tom Price is entirely unfit to be secretary of health and human services and follows a troubling pattern of Trump appointees who have shown complete disregard for the challenges women in this country face. This Republican Congress must defend the women it claims to protect and hold Trump and his nominees accountable for their anti-woman agendas."
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $400 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making it one of the most successful political organizations ever. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have trained over 9,000 women to run and helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 700 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color - including every single Latina, African American, and Asian American Democratic congresswoman currently serving.
