EMILYs List Remarks on Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

WASHINGTON, D.C. – EMILY's List president Stephanie Schriock released the following statement on the 44th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision:

“The energy we saw yesterday in Washington and across the globe is a testament to the power and strength of our movement. Women will not back down from the fights ahead. As Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress continue to put women’s access to health care and reproductive rights at risk, EMILYs List is committed, now more than ever, to ensuring that women’s voices will not be silenced. We know that one of the best ways to defend the rights that the Roe v. Wade decision secured is to make sure that more pro-choice Democratic women are at decision-making tables in government. Today, on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, EMILYs List is training 500 of those future women leaders to run for office and to stand up for women’s reproductive rights and make sure that we don’t turn back the clock on decades of progress.”

EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have trained over 9,000 women to run and helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color – including every single Latina, African American, and Asian American Democratic congresswoman currently serving.
