EMILYs List Endorses Lizzie Pannill Fletcher for Congress in Texas’ 7th District

November 14, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Lizzie Pannill Fletcher for Congress in Texas’ 7th District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Lizzie Pannill Fletcher’s roots in Houston run deep, she’s always fighting for hardworking Houston families. Whether it’s her work as a legal advocate representing Houstonians from all walks of life or co-founding Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast’s young leaders group to help recruit a new generation of leaders dedicated to health care for all, Lizzie’s dedication to making Houston a better place is unmatched.”

“The same can’t be said about Congressman John Culberson, who betrayed his own constituents when he voted for Paul Ryan’s disastrous health care bill that would kick millions of Americans – including thousands of Texans – off their insurance, or his repeated votes to defund Planned Parenthood and undermine equal pay protections for women.”

Lizzie Pannill Fletcher is a fifth-generation Houstonian and lawyer who has dedicated her career to representing diverse Texans so they can get back to work driving our economy and building our future. She is challenging incumbent Tea Party Republican Congressman John Culberson, an extremist who has spent his nine terms in office prioritizing a dangerous agenda that hurts the working families he was elected to serve. The rapidly changing demographics of the vibrant Houston area have dramatically changed the political landscape here in recent years in favor of Democrats. Hillary Clinton carried this district over Donald Trump in last year’s presidential race.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to help more women run and win at the local, state, and national levels.
