WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Andrea Ramsey for Congress in Kansas' 3rd Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, released the following statement:
"EMILY's List is proud to endorse Andrea Ramsey, an accomplished businesswoman and community leader who will bring a much-needed perspective to Washington for Kansas families. Andrea embodies Kansas values. After a successful career in the private sector, Andrea used her business and law experience to expand access to health care for underserved children in Wyandotte County. And when Governor Sam Brownback's slash-and-burn fiscal measures threatened her clinic, she found a way to save it from closing and help it grow."
"Like many Kansas families, Andrea is tired of seeing extremists like Congressman Kevin Yoder not listen to their constituents and put their party's agenda ahead of their district. Yoder voted for the disastrous Republican health care bill that would leave 23 million Americans uninsured while increasing premiums. Yoder also warmly embraced Governor Brownback's failed policies that gutted the state's economy and slashed Medicaid, higher education, and K-12 funding."
"In contrast to partisan extremists like Congressman Yoder, Andrea Ramsey is a proven, sensible leader who will be a strong voice for good jobs, affordable health care, and great public schools for Kansas families."
Andrea is running in Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District, where Hillary Clinton edged out Donald Trump in 2016. A former executive for Fortune 500-company Quest Diagnostics, Andrea began volunteering at the Turner House Children’s Clinic, which provides medical care to underserved children in Wyandotte County, in 2009. She soon joined the board, and went on to serve as president and chair. Under Andrea’s leadership, Turner House doubled its number of annual patients and expanded its services to include behavioral health and dental care for the most vulnerable young members of her community. Andrea and her husband William, a retired United States Army Colonel, are the proud parents of two children now in college. They live in Leawood, where they volunteer as mentors for college-bound students at an area high school.
Andrea is also one of the 16,000 women who approached EMILY's List to run for office through its "Run to Win" national recruitment and training program that is focused on helping pro-choice Democratic women around the country run for office — and win.
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILY’s List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
