Child Safety Protection Act

Required warning labels on the packaging of children's toys and games with small parts, balloons, small balls, or marbles. It also established standards for bicycle helmets and created grants to states and organizations promoting bicycle helmets. [HR 965; S 636]

The Best Pharmaceuticals Act improves safety and efficacy of patented and off-patent medicines for children. It included exclusivity of production measures and safety review processes. [FDA]

The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act

The bill was a pool safety bill that established safety standards for children. The bill requires physical barriers around pools to prevent children's unattended access, and mandates that pools be equipped with a suction outlet drain cover and have a safety vacuum release system. Cameron Gulbransen Kids Transportation Safety Act

The Cameron Gulbransen Kids Transportation Safety Act of 2007 established regulations for cars to improve car safety for children. It required that: power windows have an automatic reversal when they detect an obstruction; an expanded rearward field of view to prevent backing up incidents; and automatic transmissions to have an anti-rollaway system that requires the service brake to be depressed before the car can shift out of park. Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act

HR 4040 outlined new regulations for consumer product safety, including limits on lead content in paint used in children's toys and including tracking labels on children's products. It also prohibited the sale of drop-side cribs. [HR 4040]

On February 17, 2011 Rep. Mike Pence (IN-06) introduced an amendment to HR1, which would prohibit the use of funds for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. [HR 1]

HR3 - "Stupak on Steroids"

HR 3, was the dubiously named "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act". "The bill, which many called 'Super Hyde' as it took the rules already in place in the Hyde Amendment that forbid government funds to be used in abortions except in the case of rape, incest or health of the mother, then ups the definition of "government funds" to include any possible funding in the new health insurance exchanges that will be open due to health care reform, effectively banning abortion coverage by all participating insurers. H.R. 3 would also codify new additional conscience clauses for the health care industry, allowing anyone involved to refuse to perform an abortion for any reason, even if the woman needing the abortion's life is in danger."
