A champion for Minnesota’s working families

Rep. Angie Craig serves in Congress because the opportunities she was lucky enough to have are disappearing for too many working families. Rep. Craig grew up in a mobile home park, one of three kids raised by a single mom who worked while going to school to earn her college degree. Rep. Craig’s mom taught her that if she worked hard, she could grow up to be anything she wanted to be. Rep. Craig worked two jobs to keep up with the cost of her education, and graduated from a state college. She began her career as a newspaper reporter then worked her way up in business over 15 years to eventually lead a workforce of 16,000 employees for a major Minnesota manufacturer. As a former Fortune 500 company executive, she helped create jobs, empowered women and veterans to advance in their careers, and created workplace policies to promote diversity and inclusion. In 2000, her fight for custody of her adopted son led to a landmark ruling making it possible for other LGBTQ+ couples to adopt. As a leader in the Minnesota business community, Rep. Craig has been a powerful advocate for marriage equality in the state. She is the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress from Minnesota and the first openly lesbian mother and grandmother in the history of the United States Congress. Rep. Craig and her wife are proud to have raised their four sons in Minnesota and embrace the state’s values of family, community, and caring for each other.

A business leader fighting to expand economic opportunity

Rep. Craig is deeply committed to expanding economic opportunity for all Minnesotans, improving access to health care, and making education affordable. She is one of 12 House Democrats to serve on the Regional Leadership Council, overseeing the implementation of the bipartisan infrastructure law, the CHIPS and Science Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and more. She helped pass the Equality Act, a groundbreaking piece of legislation that expands the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other existing statutes to extend non-discrimination protections to the LGBTQ+ community. She also helped pass the Respect for Marriage Act to ensure that same-sex and interracial marriage is recognized in every state. Rep. Craig is fighting back against abortion bans. “I am fiercely opposed to any efforts to roll back abortion laws – laws that are sensible and widely supported by the vast majority of Minnesotans – and I will do everything I can to make sure the American government does not overreach into the private, personal decision of American families,” she has said.

A must-win fight in a battleground state

Rep. Craig was elected to represent this true purple district in 2018, and faced tough fights and won reelection in 2020 and 2022.
