WOMEN VOTE! takes on 8 battleground states

Our WOMEN VOTE! programs has been very busy this year. But there’s no sleep ‘til Election Day for EMILY’s List and WOMEN VOTE!, as they launched a new voter education program aimed at independent women in battleground states from coast to coast.

WV! has been hunkered down for a year researching what makes independent women voters tick. What they learned shouldn’t surprise anyone, given the political priorities of the Republican Party. Independent women voters think Washington is broken and find the Republican agenda to be reason enough not to vote for them.

“This is really a perfect storm election for us, with women voters playing a decisive role, at a time when Republicans have chosen to prioritize issues that women don’t like and don’t want to vote for – at a moment where we have an unprecedented number of very strong Democratic women candidates,” said EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock.

Yesterday’s newly launched voter education program in key battleground state is based off this research.

In Nevada, where Shelley Berkley is running for Senate, WV! will reach out to more than 48,000 independent women voters, a group key to Sen. Harry Reid’s 2010 victory about Sen. Dean Heller’s record including votes to defund Planned Parenthood and his support of the Blunt Amendment through direct mail and online advertising.

In Wisconsin, where Tammy Baldwin is running for Senate, WV! will target swing voters statewide on former Governor Tommy Thompson’s work on behalf of corporate special interests at the expense of Wisconsin’s working families. WOMEN VOTE! has been running TV and online ads since July and plans to continue through the election.

Moving on to Hawaii, where Mazie Hirono is running for Senate, WV! plans to communicate with Hawaii’s women voters statewide on TV and online, where women voters find Lingle’s irresponsible budget that slashed funding for Hawai’i schools and resulted in 17 furlough Fridays a convincing reason not to vote for her.

Over to Arizona’s first district, where Ann Kirkpatrick is running, WV! has polling from earlier this month that showed Republican Jonathan Paton’s extreme position on women’s health care is the single highest testing negative among women voters. WOMEN VOTE! will send 8 mail pieces educating Democratic and independent women voters on his record on women’s health.

Heading to Floridas 10th district, where Val Demings is running, WOMEN VOTE! will use a robust ten-piece direct mail program and targeted ads to reach out to nearly 30,000 women voters whom polling shows can be motivated by education on Daniel Webster’s dangerous record on women’s health.

Then in Illinois’ 17th district, where Cheri Bustos is running, WOMEN VOTE! will target approximately 23,000 independent and Democratic women voters through a nine-piece direct mail program. A vast majority of women are less likely to support Schilling after learning about his extreme record on women’s health.

On to Washington’s first district, where Suzan DelBene is running, WOMEN VOTE!, in conjunction with SEIU, will launch a direct mail campaign targeting independent women voters to educate them on Koster’s extreme record.

Finally in New Hampshire, where Maggie Hassan, Carol Shea-Porter and Annie Kuster are running, polling shows that the single most effective message in New Hampshire is the Republicans’ positions on women’s health and reproductive freedom. WOMEN VOTE! will be targeting and educating over 50,000 pro-choice independent women voters through direct mail, online and radio through Election Day. 

This isn’t the first time WOMEN VOTE! has reached out to voters in key states to get them the facts. And they have a proven record of success.

When WV! launched a direct mail campaign aimed at Hispanic women and their families: BOOM! primary win for Michelle Lujan-Grisham (NM-01).

Then when WV! sent more direct mail to pro-choice women voters in California: another primary win, this time for Julia Brownley (CA-26)

And when WV! hit the airwaves in Hawai’i with an ad for Tulsi Gabbard, you guessed it: another primary win.\

Win after win after win. The truth is, WOMEN VOTE! has done their homework with their research, and they know how to talk to independent women voters who are going to make the difference in this election.
