The GOP attacks in CO-04: Know thyself, anyone?

Cory Gardner, the GOP challenger to Cong. Betsy Markey in CO-04, is working hard to convince voters he should replace their current congresswoman in Washington. Here's the problem, though: Betsy's a tough, savvy, and dedicated leader -- and her record shows just that.
Gardner, on the other hand, is taking heat for attacking Betsy without considering his own record. This line from the Coloradoan really sums it up:
"Just days after his campaign criticized Betsy Markey for 'taking directions from lobbyists and special interests,' Republican congressional candidate Cory Gardner will have a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser hosted by six lobbyists, including one who counts BP America and Goldman Sachs among his clients."
Speaks for itself, doesn't it?
And check out this post from the Colorado Independent, which says everything you'll need to know about Gardner's record. In the state House, he bellied up to the oil and gas industry. He was a key player in establishing the Western Skies Coalition, which campaigned for local Republican candidates using industry dollars. And here's what really puts us over the edge:
"He rarely misses a chance to demonize Democrats for over-regulating the industry and killing high-paying if cyclical jobs in the various gas patches around the state and Western Skies or some other such industry front may yet rear its hydra-like heads in the upcoming mid-term elections. So maybe a BP fundraiser in D.C. makes perfect sense."
This race is going to be one of this year's most highly watched matches, and the GOP has made it clear they're determined to wrest this seat out of Democratic hands. In 2008, Betsy ran a strong grassroots campaign, unseating far-right incumbent Marilyn Musgrave. But this year, Republicans are making Betsy a top target in their plan to regain seats. Betsy's counting on the EMILY's List community to respond to attacks and win this race in November.
