Tea Party to the rescue for Jane Corwin?

I love the smell of desperation in the morning. (OK, fine, it’s the afternoon, but you get the idea). How do you know your campaign is flailing? When your idea of calling in the big guns is getting Cong. Allen West, Tea Party darling and anti-woman extremist, to campaign on your behalf. Apparently, this is the situation Republican Jane Corwin, running in the special election for New York’s 26th congressional district, finds herself in. With EMILY’s List candidate Kathy Hochul taking the lead, Corwin is resorting to increasingly frantic – and, well, laughable – measures, including robo-calls from Allen West, who just recently declared that liberal women are “neutering American men” (any surprise that we’ve put West on notice?)

One of the better parts of Allen West’s “critical Tea Party alert” is his assertion that “Jane will be a fighter on Capitol Hill to preserve Medicare for our future generations.” Surely it’s because West knows a thing or two about preserving Medicare, seeing as how he supported Cong. Paul Ryan’s budget that would destroy Medicare as we know it. Oh. Oops.

The chance for Democrats to snag a seat that previously was held by a GOP Young Gun who resigned in scandal is already an incredible prospect – but add the spectacle of Republicans running as fast as they can from their own budget and policies is just too good.
