During a radio interview this morning, Tommy Thompson -- former Wisconsin governor and Bush appointee -- announced his formal entrance into the already crowded Republican field for the open Wisconsin senate seat. In the primary, Thompson already has two opponents in former Cong. Mark Neumann and state Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald, who announced late last month.

Take what

Take what "to the bank" Rep. Bachmann?

Representative Michele Bachmann has done well so far in the GOP presidential contest by unflinchingly stating her positions on issues that resonate with the loudest factions of the Republican Party. She is an avid Tea Party-er, she does not support a woman’s right to choose, she hates the landmark health care law passed under President Obama and she has characterized earmarks as “part of the root problem with Washington's spending addiction." She has told us that as president, she will repeal the recently passed healthcare law and that we “can take that to the bank.”

The war on women takes to the silver screen

The war on women takes to the silver screen

That’s right. A candidate seeking office produced this disgusting film in which felons that kidnap women and hold them against their will are ‘the good guys.’ Never mind that these women were exercising their Constitutionally protected right to choose; Never mind that the hero is a deranged old man who gets his jollies by abducting young women and holding them hostage, torturing them mentally and physically by forcing them to deliver babies they legally have a right to decide not to bear; Never mind that he gets help from an equally twisted doctor who took an oath to protect her patient’s and provide them with the care they want and need, but she instead helped kidnap them.

What Tea Party?

What Tea Party?

With six days left, the Tea Party Express is pulling out all the stops, touring around the country, shouting their angry diatribes at the top of their lungs… and endorsing a whole slew of ultra-conservative, backwards-looking Republicans, including seven running against our candidates. I have to wonder: who are these tea partiers?

By now, if you haven’t heard that, almost two decades after the infamous hearings, Justice Clarence Thomas’s wife, Ginni, called Anita Hill and told her to apologize to her husband, you may be the only person in America without a Facebook page, a Twitter feed, or a television.

The Smart Girls Summit is not a Republican gathering. It's decidedly Tea Party. And in a movement defined primarily by angry men, these women don't seem to fit.

The second annual Smart Girl Summit is taking place right now in our nation's capital, and we thought that sounded like fun. Personally, I love smart girls -- they grow up to be smart women. Smart women change the world.

You know that old saying, you’re only as good as the company you keep? Well, yet again, Dino Rossi, who’s trying to unseat Sen. Patty Murray, is associating with some pretty appalling characters. At a business round-table in Spokane, a woman upset with a pro-union bill exclaimed about Patty, “She ought to be shot. Murray and (Sen. Maria) Cantwell ought to be shot.” This violent, outrageous remark is not the first to be directed toward Patty.
