I'm a Montanan, so I've always liked my space. We're believers in freedom out in the West, and we can get prickly when people threaten what's ours. So it's interesting that tonight, when Republicans debate their proposed limitations on our rights, they'll do it in the West. And I'm thrilled to be here in Nevada, in these wide open spaces, to see it.

Linda Hester, who is 63 and lives in North Carolina, said that she decided to make calls with EMILY’s List this week because she had "watched with horror the unfolding spectacle that the GOP and Gov. Walker were creating in that state" and "felt bad for all the teachers, public employees, etc.” For her, making calls “was a way to show solidarity” with Wisconsin.

Last night, we got to see the American spirit at its absolute best. Gabrielle Giffords arrived in the chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives to a standing ovation from colleagues on both sides of the aisle. She walked in beaming, without help, and she cast her vote. She said she was happy to get back to work.

"We are seeing nationwide women are fed up with what this Republican Party is doing to our futures, and our children’s futures, and quite frankly our parent’s futures with attacks on Medicare across the board. We are fed up! And we realize it is time for all of us, women across the country to step up," Stephanie said.

Today we renew our commitment to recruiting, training, and electing talented Democratic women across the country. And we need all everyone who shares our commitment to women’s leadership and policies that support women and their families to stand with us, too. It’s time to Stand Up and Serve.

Let's talk about where you and I will find ourselves if we don't roll up our sleeves, get the vote out, and re-elect Democratic women to Congress: we'll be living in John Boehner's America. Make no mistake -- if Republicans succeed in their efforts, discouraging women voters and taking away the gavel from Nancy Pelosi, then we'll get Speaker Boehner.

That old phrase "the company you keep" has been on my mind lately. A few weeks ago, EMILY's List launched a campaign to highlight the extremist agenda of Sarah Palin and her candidates. We asked for women's perspectives, and boy, did we get it.

Conversation is constant here. We got to speak with attendees while at our EMILY's List booth at the exhibition all, meeting long-time supporters and sharing our mission with folks new to what we do -- and handed out some pretty cute notepads. At panel discussions and roundtable talks, we heard hopes, frustrations, and desire for more progressive action.

I enjoyed talking to Eleanor Clift last week about the future of EMILY's List -- not just electing more women, but growing our community of activists and supporters significantly -- doubling and doubling again, as I have pledged. I am confident that this growth will be fueled by our commitment to electing strongly pro-choice Democratic women.
