Marc Cenedella is the CEO of a high-salary job search firm. And he says that he’s a "9.2" out of 10 he'll run against Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Not okay, Marc. Read on for the details. And I'm absolutely serious that what follows is disgusting and degrading, so please be careful.

When women are running for office they are often asked, “How can you campaign and still take care of your family?” This is a question few (if any) male candidates are asked. Being a working mom takes balance and the ability to multi-task and prioritize. The EMILY’s List women prove it every day. Just the other day, Working Mother released their list of the Most Powerful Moms in Washington, DC for 2011 and some familiar – and deserving – faces make the list.

Earlier this week, I had the delight of joining the EMILY’s List community gathered in D.C. to celebrate what is shaping up to be a historic year for women in politics – with half the senate women up for re-election, and strong challengers and candidates for open seats – this is the most Democratic women we’ve seen running for the senate, ever.

Veteran's Day: A time to honor those who serve

Veteran's Day is a celebration to honor America's 23 million veterans for their patriotism and willigness to serve their country. As we celebrate this Veterans Day, we remember one of the best ways to honor our men and women in uniform is to help them when they come home. We’re grateful for the EMILY’s List elected officials who are leading the way.

The elected members of the EMILY's List family hold powerful positions in their roles in the House and Senate, some directly working with Armed Services, the Intelligence Committee, and Homeland Security. Their leadership on these issues have gone a long way to help make America safer and care for our troops and veterans in the wake of 9/11. Here are some of their statements on the 10th anniversary of that horrible day.

Watching last week's game, I was reminded of just how hard our women work -- on and off the floor. These ladies took time from their busy schedule, time away from their families, to support a great cause. The annual game benefits the Young Survival Coalition, a breast cancer charity. This year the Women Members took on the ladies of the DC press corps, with a special appearance by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who threw out the first pitch.

We’ve been keeping close watch on H.R. 3, the GOP-supported bill that would be harmful to women and their families by limiting their access to abortion and overall reproductive health care. Earlier this week, Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Richard Blumenthal wrote for the EMILY’s List blog about this restrictive legislation and how dangerous it is for American women.

This week, the GOP House is considering H.R.3, a bill so restrictive it would limit a woman’s access to reproductive care even when her life was in danger. Today, we’re asking you to join us by signing the EMILY’s List petition telling Republicans we won’t let them roll back the clock on our rights and opportunities.

President Obama gave a poignant, powerful speech yesterday in Tucson at a memorial service for the victims of Saturday’s shooting, including Cong. Gabrielle Giffords. Our president’s words were that of a public servant honoring others who serve us; a man who shared in our grief at the senseless violence; and a father who wants a better country for his two young daughters.

There's no doubt we face challenges as the 112th Congress convenes, but there is also reason for celebration. All of you helped elect a strong group of pro-choice Democratic women to fight for us, including four new women of color in the House, and it was a thrill to have them sworn in yesterday.

Gillibrand gets a chance to thank Jon for his role, as she recognizes the role that all of us have in our democracy: speaking up.

Before we break out the bubbly to celebrate New Year's, it's time to take a look back at some Hall of Shame moments of the last year. In what was supposed to be another "Year of the Woman," we actually faced some pretty appalling, backwards behavior in the political arena -- but more importantly, we saw some powerful responses from the women who were on the receiving end of talk that should've died out in 1911. In no particular order, we present our top 5 sexist moments of 2010:

Just moments ago, the Senate passed the 9/11 Health Bill at the urging of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand -- delivering for our first responders, our nation's heroes, the proper medical care they deserve. This bill has been a legislative priority for Sen. Gillibrand for many months -- she has fought hard to bring this issue to the forefront and continued to hold Republicans attempting to block the legislation accountable.

We all owe a tip of the hat to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. A tireless advocate, she’s on an incredible winning streak of late. Kirsten continues to force critical issues to the forefront of our national debate. While other senators, in particular tea party favorite Jim DeMint, have been more focused on political grandstanding and calling working for their constituents in late December “sacrilegious,” Gillibrand has stayed focused on getting things done for American families.
