Karl Rove is betting 2012 on defeating our women in critical Senate races across the country. How do I know this? Just look at his latest move. He’s bought air time in Missouri and Massachusetts -- it’s a siren ahead of the bite -- he’s going up on the air to drag our women through the mud. Rove and his operatives at American Crossroads know the path to the Senate goes straight through our EMILY’s List candidates. Well, so do we.

Earlier this week, I had the delight of joining the EMILY’s List community gathered in D.C. to celebrate what is shaping up to be a historic year for women in politics – with half the senate women up for re-election, and strong challengers and candidates for open seats – this is the most Democratic women we’ve seen running for the senate, ever.

Veteran's Day: A time to honor those who serve

Veteran's Day is a celebration to honor America's 23 million veterans for their patriotism and willigness to serve their country. As we celebrate this Veterans Day, we remember one of the best ways to honor our men and women in uniform is to help them when they come home. We’re grateful for the EMILY’s List elected officials who are leading the way.

The elected members of the EMILY's List family hold powerful positions in their roles in the House and Senate, some directly working with Armed Services, the Intelligence Committee, and Homeland Security. Their leadership on these issues have gone a long way to help make America safer and care for our troops and veterans in the wake of 9/11. Here are some of their statements on the 10th anniversary of that horrible day.

Sen. McCaskill is making sure those survivors are getting everything they need. When Majority Leader Eric Cantor callously balked at giving federal assistance to the disaster victims, McCaskill stood her ground for Joplin. "It must be available," she said on the Senate floor.

Faced with increasingly likelihood of a government shutdown, EMILY’s List women in Congress are doing what they do best – representing our interests by telling it like it is. Here’s what our advocates have to say about Republican brinksmanship over funding Planned Parenthood, which has nothing to do with fiscal responsibility and everything to do with an anti-woman agenda.

Mikulski started organizing casual events where the women could get together with "no staff, no memos, no leaks and no men"several years ago, in cooperation with her colleague (and fellow EMILY's List candidate) Sen. Claire McCaskill. Through their meetings and friendships, they have cultivated a space where the women of the Senate feel comfortable debating issues despite difference of opinion. They may not always agree on the policy choices, but their respect for a civil political discourse manifests on the Senate floor and even on the Sunday shows.

There's no doubt we face challenges as the 112th Congress convenes, but there is also reason for celebration. All of you helped elect a strong group of pro-choice Democratic women to fight for us, including four new women of color in the House, and it was a thrill to have them sworn in yesterday.

Some may say that the Senate moves at a sloth's pace, and while it was never a legislative cheetah, it hasn't always been like this. The filibuster is not a product of grand legislative tradition -- it's a twisted vestige of a gentleman's agreement first used in opposition to the Civil Rights Act.

It’s enough to waken your inner Howard Beale: the blatant sexism faced by women at every level of politics, during every step of the game. A recent interview with EMILY’s List alum and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton while in Kyrgyzstan was a perfect illustration of this – along with an applause-worthy rejoinder by Hillary:
