Earlier this week, I had the delight of joining the EMILY’s List community gathered in D.C. to celebrate what is shaping up to be a historic year for women in politics – with half the senate women up for re-election, and strong challengers and candidates for open seats – this is the most Democratic women we’ve seen running for the senate, ever.

In a new study issued by Center for American Women in Politics at Rutgers University and Rachel’s Network entitled “When Women Lead” we learn that when it comes to going green, women in office are leading the way and making more environmentally-friendly votes than men.

EMILY’s List women say it best: you seriously want to shut down the government over Planned Parenthood?

Faced with increasingly likelihood of a government shutdown, EMILY’s List women in Congress are doing what they do best – representing our interests by telling it like it is. Here’s what our advocates have to say about Republican brinksmanship over funding Planned Parenthood, which has nothing to do with fiscal responsibility and everything to do with an anti-woman agenda.

We’ve been keeping close watch on H.R. 3, the GOP-supported bill that would be harmful to women and their families by limiting their access to abortion and overall reproductive health care. Earlier this week, Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Richard Blumenthal wrote for the EMILY’s List blog about this restrictive legislation and how dangerous it is for American women.

Because, Alice, the entire reason EMILY’s List exists is to make it possible for women — rich, poor, black, white, young, mature, et al — to raise the money they need to run viable, winning campaigns for office. And we have a long list of successful candidates — most of them women of ordinary means — to prove it.

Our West Coast Senators: protecting their shores

Earlier this week, our four West Coast senators did what they do best -- stand up for their home states. This powerful foursome consists of Senators Barbara Boxer (CA), and Patty Murray (WA), who both recently won re-election with the help of EMILY's List members as well as Maria Cantwell (WA), and Dianne Feinstein (CA), who are both up for re-election this cycle. Banded together with the two Democratic senators from Oregon, they're fighting offshore drilling on the Pacific Coast. They'll do to what it takes to protect the natural resources and jobs that are crucial to their constituents.

When reflecting on a tough year for Democrats and women, it’s helpful to examine some of the strategies that helped us protect the seats of advocates like Sen. Barbara Boxer and Sen. Patty Murray. One such tactic was EMILY's List's WOMEN VOTE! program. Looking at the numbers and impact of WOMEN VOTE!, we can take away some valuable lessons for our upcoming battles to reclaim the House and increase the number of woman elected officials.

We at EMILY’s List are no strangers to the deceptive, unfair, and sometimes downright dangerous campaign ads run by the Chamber of Commerce during this last election cycle. A particularly ugly case in point: in Wisconsin, the Chamber ran an ad against EMILY’s List candidate Julie Lassa that included her family’s home phone number. Turns out, we’re not the only ones outraged by the Chamber’s aggressively right-wing agenda as demonstrated by their ads: as reported by POLITICO, local groups are distancing themselves or even quitting in protest.

Our President, Stephanie Schriock, has been making calls today to the dedicated EMILY's List members who provided critical resources and support to our women candidates. She wanted to share this special message from one of our greatest advocates, Sen. Barbara Boxer, who lets us know what having EMILY’s List on her side meant to her.

It's been great to see so many accomplished Democratic women standing together on stage in these final days before the election. First Lady Michelle Obama joined EMILY's List Chair Ellen Malcolm for a campaign stop in Bellevue, WA earlier this week for Sen. Patty Murray. Continuing on the trail, Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden stopped in California to stand with Sen. Barbara Boxer.

Fasten your seatbelts: EMILY's List is going all out in these last two weeks before the election for Sen. Barbara Boxer, one of our strongest progressive advocates. Our WOMEN VOTE! project in California is hitting the airwaves and reaching out to women voters to spread the truth about Carly Fiorina: she'd be disastrous for women and for California.

In a Washington Post article today, Greg Sargent compiles a remarkable – but not exhaustive – list of ads attacking Democratic candidates by heavily-funded right-wing groups, Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS and the U.S. Chamber. What these ads have in common, other than the political leanings of their targets, is that they’ve been debunked by independent fact checkers.

With just 27 short days until voters head to the polls, many of our candidates' races will be won on the ground -- some by a few hundred votes. Our women are hard at work reaching undecided voters, rallying their supporters, and ensuring that their message is being heard loud and clear.

There’s never been a question of which way the wind blows for Fox News’s various talking heads: decidedly to the right. But Fox’s parents company, News Corp., poured a cool $1 million this summer into the coffers of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a business lobby that’s blanketing the nation’s airwaves with attack ads against Democratic candidates.

Right on the heels of an outrageous ad attacking Sen. Barbara Boxer over jobs, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has ponied up a hefty $1 million for TV buys on behalf of Carly Fiorina’s campaign. The galling hypocrisy of the Chamber ad isn’t lost on us: it falsely accuses Boxer of something Fiorina herself actually did – cutting thousands of jobs for Californians while she was at HP.
