EMILY's List
Something rotten in the state of North Carolina

No one likes a lot of extra hot air in the summertime - not from their weatherman, and certainly not from their senator.
According to a recent poll, only 32% of voters approve of North Carolina Senator Richard Burr’s job performance. That's an approval rating lower than all but two of his colleagues in the Senate. It's great news for our candidate, Elaine Marshall -- polls are tightening in her bid to unseat Burr.
And, it's not hard to imagine why North Carolinians aren’t satisfied with Burr. This is the guy who called the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act "political theater," voted multiple times against unemployment insurance, and even instructed his wife to "go to the ATM machine...[and repeatedly] draw out everything it will let you take" when he feared the financial crisis meant "if you put a plastic card in an ATM machine the last thing you were going to get was cash." And, just yesterday, he voted against legislation that will increase funding for his home state and save 4,500 teaching jobs.
But don't just take our word for it -- get this from IndyWeek:
Sen. Richard Burr, who's no sure thing for re-election this year any way you slice it, nonetheless refuses every opportunity to re-present himself as a thinking person's moderate. Instead, he's a down-the-line conservative/partisan Republican, against everything the Obama Administration proposes no matter what.
While Burr has made it clear he’s out of touch with voters in North Carolina, Elaine has a proven record of standing up for small businesses, protecting consumers, fighting fraud, and successfully battling Wall Street. And her voice is exactly what we need in the Senate.
