Sink writes letter to state legislators; Time is now
By Hilary Nachem on 07/13/2010 @ 06:18 PM
Alex Sink knows that as BP undergoes further measures to seal the well in the Gulf, someone needs to stand up for Florida's businesses and families bearing the harsh economic impact of corporate failure. That's why she is writing to the state's presiding officers to urge them to pass tax relief during the upcoming special session.
“Without protecting our state waters through the constitutional amendment process, the Florida we know and love is in critical danger,” she wrote. “But you also should take this session to pass smart, meaningful legislation that will directly impact the lives of so many of our residents and offer critically needed help for our small-business owners.”
Seizing the reigns, Alex is up against the state's Governor whose plans are to limit the legislature to only one vote during their meeting.
Alex proposed enacting job training for fishermen and other workers whose livelihoods have been shut down. Her initial actions as an advocate for the victims have already led to the Florida legislature enacting a speedier process for claims -- ensuring that the help for those that need it most is seen in a matter of days.
