We're celebrating exciting news out of Alabama today, where Terri Sewell came out on top in a four-way primary race to fill the open seat in AL-07.
Here's how the votes broke down:
Terri Sewell -- 36.8%
Earl Hilliard, Jr. -- 26.9%
Shelia Smoot -- 28.5%
Martha Bozeman -- 7.8%
Although Terri pulled ahead of the crowd, the fight isn't over yet. Under Alabama law, if no candidate reaches 50 percent +1, the two top vote-getters advance to a run-off. Now, Terri has just six weeks to prepare for the July 13 run-off with Smoot, who came in second yesterday.
EMILY's List members helped make a remarkable difference in Terri's race, making she sure was able to get on TV first and mobilizing voters through our WOMEN VOTE! project. Terri is counting on us to come through for once again and provide the resources she'll need to win this run-off and be poised to become the first woman from the state to be elected to Congress in her own right!
