EMILY's List
Seriously? Still with the hair?

It was a refreshing change to see a female face among the legion of male ones usually found on the Sunday political talk show circuit. However, apparently not everyone was as happy as we were to see veteran journalist Christiane Amanpour take over the reins of This Week. Sadly, the criticism seems all too familiar and all too shallow: “that hair of hers — yipe. What's the deal with that?” Tom Shales profoundly noted in the Washington Post. Remember all the fuss about Jake Tapper’s haircut or David Gregory’s mane? Yeah, we don’t either.
This post from Jezebel does an excellent job collecting the various ridiculous jabs at Amanpour, from being too foreign and too international, and of course, that hair! Nevermind that Christiane put together a substantive show that probed into timely issues and asked tough questions. As Taylor Marsh points out, Amanpour’s decades of hard-hitting journalism earns her the misogynist smear of being a “globe-trotting Fancy-Pants” (in other words, leave it to the big boys, missy!) Maybe critics would have been happier if Christiane had held a debate over the superiority of Sen. Barbara Boxer vs. Carly Fiorina’s hairstyles – you know, the important stuff.
