Roxanne Conlin: "I fight for a living"

Roxanne Conlin's used to a challenge.
Roxanne -- the second woman to serve as a U.S. attorney and first woman president of the National Association of Trial Lawyers -- has entered the U.S. Senate race to challenge GOP incumbent Chuck Grassley. For her, the decision to run for office this time came down to responsibility. "I fight for a living as a trial lawyer against powerful interests and on behalf of people they have harmed," she says. And that fighting spirit is exactly why Roxanne, unhappy with the state's representation, chose to take action and stand up for the state's constituents.
First on her agenda? Getting Iowans back to work.
“I know what it is like to live in a family where the breadwinner has lost his job, which happened to me as a child and which is happening to people all over Iowa. So whatever we can do to bring jobs to this economy we need to do. And that includes investing in infrastructure, investing in clean, renewable, home-grown energy.”
Iowa has never elected a woman to Congress -- House or Senate -- and here at EMILY's List, we believe Roxanne is exactly the candidate to break that barrier and get Iowa back on track.
