Rep. Kosmas helps family cut through red tape

Much is asked of our servicemen and women, but asking the family of one sergeant to jump through bureaucratic hoops to help the family's quest for a reunion was going too far. That was, until the mother contacted her representative – EL Cong. Suzanne Kosmas (FL-24). Suzanne and her staff took up the family’s case, meeting last week with Lacey Mercer, whose husband -- Justice -- is on his fifth tour in the Middle East.
The majority of Sgt. Mercer's contact with his son has been through digital pictures and web-based video chats. Earlier this year, Mrs. Mercer experienced several hurdles trying to get their young son a passport -- a process that typically requires both parents to report to the passport facility. The mother and son had planned to meet Sgt. Mercer at a base in Germany upon return from his current tour in Iraq. Suzanne stepped in to help the Mercers cut through some of the red tape -- and help bring the family closer to a reunion.
