Niki Tsongas hailed for her dedication to expanding health care and aiding the homeless

Since her election in 2007, Cong. Niki Tsongas has been working hard each day to deliver for the people of central Massachusetts. On her first day in office, she cast her first vote in support of children's health care.
And that was just the beginning. Niki worked to help secure $95,000 in funding for Horizons for Homeless Children. It was a gift that allowed 250 homeless children to have access to safe play spaces throughout the fifth District, staffed by 125 volunteers.
And now, Niki is being honored with an award from the Boston-based nonprofit for her service to homeless children and families. Horizons for Homeless Children presented Tsongas with the 2010 Public Leadership Award earlier this month at a dinner in Boston where she was recognized for her work in Congress.
“I am honored to receive this award and am deeply moved by the work that you are doing for the children and families of Massachusetts,” Niki said. “These past two years have been especially hard on families in Massachusetts, and while there are hints that the economy is on the road to recovery, we still have a long way to go.”
