Mr. Speaker, we know your real agenda: a war on American women

This morning, Speaker John Boehner and House Republicans hosted an online forum on job creation, as reported by The Washington Post. It couldn’t be clearer that this event was nothing more than smoke and mirrors with a social media gloss: the GOP has held the majority of the House since January, and no amount of tweets, live streams, or other stunts will convince the American public that Republicans are actually serious about jobs. Just hours after this online forum, the GOP began hearings on H.R. 3, legislation that denies women essential health care services.

The sad reality is that, while Boehner and his ilk have talked the talk about job creation with nothing to show for it, they have pursued a wildly different agenda than the one promised during the election. Appallingly, they have put nearly all of their efforts into an all-out war on women – a war on women’s health, rights, and opportunities. This shameful bait-and-switch harms citizens across the country, undermining the economic outlook and well-being of American families.

EMILY’s List and thousands of others see through the Republicans’ flimsy ruse. Our most popular tweet today? “Sorry, Mr. Speaker: a #jobs hashtag just isn’t going to cut it when your real agenda is a war on women.” We’re speaking out, loud and clear, to tell the GOP that we’re not going to stand for their real agenda with our Stop the War on Women campaign.
