Moving up -- a star of the EMILY's List pipeline
Kelda Roys has us excited. Very excited. This Wisconsin state assemblywoman -- and EMILY's List Political Opportunity Program alumna -- is running for Congress, and she's "On the List!"
Kelda is running for the Congressional seat in Wisconsin’s second district. It’s the seat that Cong. Tammy Baldwin currently holds. Tammy, a long-time EMILY’s List candidate, is running for Senate, so the second district seat is open. And Kelda is the perfect candidate to follow in Tammy’s footsteps.
She's a passionate progressive and a fighter for the rights of women and the middle class -- exactly the kind of woman we need to hold on to this seat. That won't necessarily be easy, even though this is a strongly Democratic district. Kelda has a competitive primary looming, and her opponents are gearing up.
We've seen the tremendous opportunity here, and that's why we've put Kelda "On the List." We've also seen what happens when the EMILY's List pipeline of pro-choice Democratic women candidates gets going.
In Wisconsin alone -- in one election cycle! -- we helped elect state senator Gwen Moore to the U.S. Congress. Then we helped elect assemblywoman Lena Taylor to Gwen's senate seat. And then we helped elect Tamara Grigsby to Lena’s assembly seat. And we're planning on a repeat performance with Kelda!
When we elect pro-choice Democratic women at all levels, we vastly improve the state of American politics. Kelda is the perfect woman keep this pipeline flowing and to hold on to this seat!
