Lois Capps: Helping California Families, Leading on Health and Women's Rights

Californians have been lucky to have Lois Capps working for them for many years. She has consistently proven that her dedication to health, schools, and families will always be her priority. After serving Santa Barbara for 20 years as a school nurse, health advocate, and part time instructor, Lois knows how the policies of the Republican Congress are hurting our communities and our families.

This year, redistricting in California means that Lois is running in the new 24th district against Republican Abel Maldonado. Maldonado has two failed statewide campaigns under his belt and was appointed Lieutenant Governor by Governor Schwarzenegger.

While key parts of Lois's current district, 34 percent of the district is new. It contains her hometown of Santa Barbara, parts of the central coast and more area to the north. Despite the turf battle, Lois is already beginning a grassroots campaign to meet thousands of the new district's voters.

Lois has always been a tried and true EMILY's List candidate since we supported her when she first ran. Lois has regularly led the charge to protect women's health care during reform debates as a champion of choice. That's why we've fully recommended Lois Capps in California.
