Raising Arizona: Kirkpatrick and Giffords are on voters' side
No dirty tricks or smears here: an EMILY’s List program in Arizona has begun informing voters about the choices they face in the upcoming election. We’ve sent mail to targeted voters about Congs. Ann Kirkpatrick and Gabrielle Giffords. As POLITICO puts it: ”the mailers follow a tried-and-true EMILY's List method this cycle: They're not noisy or caustic, but they draw a bright line between Democrats and their challengers when it comes to policy.”
We’re doing this because it works: our research has shown that women voters in particular crave reliable information about issues that directly affect their lives, like health care and reproductive rights. In Arizona, we’re letting constituents know about how Ann Kirkpatrick stands up for them against big insurance companies, while Paul Gosar would work to repeal health care reform – oh, and did we mention that Gosar refuses to even debate Ann? The 1st district deserves a lot more than that.
In Arizona’s 8th district, voters are getting the facts about Gabrielle Giffords’s strong record of creating and saving jobs, as well as tax cuts for small businesses – in contrast to her opponent’s support of tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and the elimination of the minimum wage. In her recent debate with Jesse Kelly, Gabby said it best: “Elections are about choice and they couldn’t be clearer. Throughout this debate Mr. Kelly has said the word Arizona one time. I’m not sure who he wants to represent, but it’s not us.”
The choice is clear, and EMILY’s List is there to get the message out.
