Kathy Hochul takes the lead in NY-26 - we must continue our support

Here's the good news: yesterday, Public Policy Polling showed Kathy Hochul leading 35% to GOP opponent Jane Corwin's 31%. This is great in and of itself, but PPP saw some more indicators in their data, including the extreme unpopularity of Congressional Republicans, loss of independent support for the GOP, and the fading of the "enthusiasm gap."

There's no doubt these are very positive signs for both Hochul's campaign and the outlook for Democrats in the next cycle, but it's too early to start celebrating. Republicans know they're in hot water in New York's 26th district, which led to a non-coincidental pit-stop this week by Speaker Boehner to stump for Corwin. Now, big money from Karl Rove's shadowy American Crossroads (fueled by the likes of Big Oil execs and Donald Trump himself) is pouring in. What this means is that Kathy Hochul has a real chance of turning the seat blue, but only if we keep up our support. If we can get Kathy to victory, then the message to the GOP is clear: voters are ready to embrace Democrats with open arms in 2012.
