As the Supreme Court hears challenges related to same-sex marriage this week, we wanted to take a moment to give a shout-out to some of our EMILY’s List women who have tirelessly supported equality. Notably, California Attorney General Kamala Harris, who, after her 2010 election, chose not to defend California’s Proposition 8. She filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court arguing that Prop 8 is unconstitutional.

This week, EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock stopped by Morning Joe. She talked about the history EMILY’s List has made over the last 28 years, reminding us that when EMILY’s List started, no Democratic woman had won a seat in the United States Senate in her own right ever – not until Barbara Mikulski. “We had MTV before there was a women’s bathroom in the United States Senate,” Schriock explained to the panel.
