This week, EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock stopped by Morning Joe. She talked about the history EMILY’s List has made over the last 28 years, reminding us that when EMILY’s List started, no Democratic woman had won a seat in the United States Senate in her own right ever – not until Barbara Mikulski. “We had MTV before there was a women’s bathroom in the United States Senate,” Schriock explained to the panel.

If you didn’t see Tuesday's brilliant documentary, Makers, on PBS last night, I encourage you to stop what you’re doing and watch right now.

It’s been a long time coming, but the Violence Against Women Act is finally heading to President Obama’s desk for his signature. This is due in no small part to the tireless efforts of EMILY’s List women like Rep. Gwen Moore, Rep. Louise Slaughter and Senator Patty Murray.

Speculation is already running rampant around the 2016 presidential race and we’ve barely had a chance to think about the upcoming 2014 midterm elections. But before those come to pass, there are a few big races in 2013 that you need to know about -- including the race for governor in New Jersey.

Being an avid movie goer myself (and thrower of an annual Oscars party), I thought it would be fun to ask our fearless leader, Stephanie, about her picks for this year’s Oscars. “I’ve only seen two of the movies [Zero Dark Thirty and Silver Linings Playbook],” she told me. “After all, it was an election year.” Oh. Well, fair enough. All that winning can keep a person from the movie theater.

It's been a whirlwind few weeks in EMILY's List-land. We stepped back to take a look and found such great stuff that we just had to share it with you. Because you made every ounce of it possible.

Arts and crafts chain Hobby Lobby is pursuing a lawsuit against the Obama administration’s birth-control mandate and they have the backing of a few prominent Republican lawmakers.  The GOP is at it yet again -- trying to limit access to birth control.

I have an aunt who lives way out in the woods of Nebraska. Chadron, actually, beautiful country, pristine land, amazing wildlife. She doesn’t have a landline at her house – or electricity, for that matter (by choice). And it was only relatively recently that there was a cell tower near enough to allow  her to get a phone with a local provider to have regular phone access. Still, it’s a basic plan, with limited minutes (the two of us get chatty) and between our two schedules, I’m only able to catch up with her once or twice a month.
