EMILY's List
In good company… with Michele Bachmann?
By Jen Bluestein on 08/04/2010 @ 11:22 AM
I never thought I'd say this, but I am so proud to be in Michele Bachmann's campaign literature.
Yes, that's right -- proud. You see, EMILY's List is in good, good company, and Michele Bachmann -- well, she's running scared, though her fear hasn't curtailed her outrageousness one bit.
She just sent out a mailing, sending out the alarm that her opponent -- that would be EMILY's List candidate and state Senator Tarryl Clark -- raised a significant amount of money over the last few months -- enough, Michele says, to make it an emergency! EMILY's List, she says, is supporting her opponent! And so are the "radical environmentalists" -- I guess that means anyone who thinks BP should be held accountable for the disaster in the Gulf, unlike Michele, who thinks BP has been done wrong by the government.
She says her election is an emergency situation for anyone who takes the Constitution seriously, and this time, I couldn't agree with her more. Promote the general welfare? Gotta think health care reform is good for the general welfare. Establish justice and insure domestic tranquility? Yep, that's why the EMILY's List pro-choice Democratic women have fought so hard for Wall Street reform to protect families and communities. The 15th and 19th Amendments, granting the right to vote regardless of race or sex? That Constitution is good stuff.
It's hard for me to understand, really, how Michele's focus on government in her desperate fundraising appeal connects with her stated purpose. You remember when she said that if the Republicans took back Congress that all they should do was investigations and subpoenas? I can't believe she didn't include that inspiring vision in her letter! Wait, I don't remember that part of the Constitution -- say no to solutions and yes to partisan investigations?
OK, seriously. A government that's fair. That seeks justice. That promotes stability and equality for American families. That's right. That's what EMILY's List candidates stand for and what they fight for at the state and federal level. So thanks, Michele, for the hat-tip. It's true -- we do think your days are numbered. We think Americans deserve better. And members of the List are standing strong with Tarryl and candidates like her across the country.
