Cong. Debbie Halvorson: fighting against corporate greed for our men and women who serve
By Hilary Nachem on 08/02/2010 @ 04:16 PM
When Cong. Debbie Halvorson learned of a greedy and deceptive practice of life insurance companies – holding funds instead of giving lump payments to families who’ve lost loved ones in combat – she knew she had to do something about it. A step-mother of an Army Special Forces soldier who was wounded in Afghanistan in 2008, Debbie has experienced that dreaded phone call in the middle of the night, and she vowed that “our survivors should not suffer any longer.”
Still a first-term representative, Halvorson has introduced important legislation that would protect the families of our troops from outrageous corporate schemes that prevent them from getting the financial support they sorely need. This is no “Mama Grizzly” lip service – Debbie is truly doing crucial work on behalf of Americans bearing the greatest burden of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. One more reason why EMILY’s List is so proud to support Debbie Halvorson – and why you should help her campaign today.
