Since joining the Senate last year, Kirsten has made education one of her top priorities -- and we've been thrilled to watch her in action.
Just last week, Kirsten organized an education summit in New York with guest speaker Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, along with 80 college and university presidents from across the state. The summit brought together educators to help draft programs for New York's low-income youth, aimed at increasing college opportunities for all New York students.
Kirsten put it simply, "This kind of investment pays for itself."
The math backs that up, too. According to Kirsten's office, workers with a bachelor's degree earn an average of $19,000 more each year and $1 million more over the course of a lifetime.
