Gabrielle Giffords

With Arizona Cong. Gabrielle Giffords, it's not Washington business as usual. Since her election in 2008, Gabrielle has kept her focus exactly where it should be: on fighting for the people of Arizona.

In case you missed it last week, Gabrielle introduced legislation that would help senior citizens find work in the current competitive job market.

“In 2009, adults 55 and over made up almost 20 percent of the workforce, the highest percentage we’ve ever had,” Giffords said at the Pima Council On Aging in Tucson. "More seniors are in the workforce, and more are being laid off, having trouble paying health insurance bills, or being able to do as well as they have historically.”

And Gabrielle isn't just helping constituents find work; she's also focused on creating new jobs for Arizona's citizens, introducing a bill to bring highly sought-after technology jobs to the state. The Optical Society of America (OSA) recognized Gabrielle's work on the Solar Technology Roadmap Act by selecting her as their 2010 Advocate of Optics. The Roadmap legislation seeks to improve solar technology research, development and demonstration -- key to keeping Arizona, and America, competitive in the global energy market.
