EMILY's List backs Wall Street watchdog Marshall in NC-Sen

Exciting news! EMILY's List just backed North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall in her bid to unseat far-right GOP incumbent Senator Richard Burr. This is going to be one of the country's highest profile Senate races this fall -- and a top GOP priority -- and we're committed to helping Elaine put this seat in Democratic hands.

Elaine was the first woman elected to statewide executive office in North Carolina in 1996, and she's proven she has the skill, tenacity, and commitment to working families to represent the Tar Heel State in the Senate. And when it comes to making change, Elaine gets results.

She helped North Carolina residents recover $340 million from investment banks; took on Wall Street special interests and won; and has an economic plan to create new jobs and invest in green infrastructure.

She's a true Wall Street watchdog who's running such a strong campaign she's been called "Richard Burr's nightmare."

And Burr? The contrast couldn't be clearer. Richard Burr has voted against reforming Wall Street while pocketing their special interest money -- to the tune of $1.2 million from securities, banks and financial interests over his career. He's a far-right, lockstep Republican who voted against health care reform, has falling approval ratings, a low profile among the state's voters, and a tough re-election on his hands. But he's also got lots of money in the bank to fight off a challenge from Elaine, who will be counting on EMILY's List support to build the resources she'll need to win.

Check out Elaine's profile to learn more about the race.
