Chip, Ahoy! Here comes Tarryl

GOP Cong. Chip Cravaack, whom we put “On Notice” in April for his heinous anti-woman record, was already considered one of the most vulnerable freshmen in the House. Now, not only is former state senator and green jobs advocate Tarryl Clark in the race for Minnesota’s 8th District, she’s “On the List.”

Clark waged a formidable challenge to Tea Party icon Michelle Bachmann in 2010 — raising more money than any other Democratic challenger in the country, thanks in part to EMILY’s List members — and is a beacon of hope for Minnesota Dems hoping to retake the seat defeated Democratic Cong. Jim Oberstar held for more than three decades. Today I’m thrilled to tell you she’s also part of EMILY’s List’s new program to raise early money and support for promising candidates.

Of course, Minnesota’s redistricting plan is still bouncing around the state and federal courts, but Clark, having spent 2011 fighting to create good, clean jobs in Minnesota, is ready to run in the redrawn 8th CD. Conversely, Cravaack — a shameless leader in the War on Women who, rather than focusing on jobs and families, has championed the draconian Ryan Plan to eliminate Medicare and pushed to redefine rape — is taking heat from struggling and frustrated constituents for his out-of-step record.

Cravaack, whose recent town hall meeting on the GOP’s proposed cuts to Medicare and Medicaid was interrupted by heckling from an angry crowd, jokingly called his presentation “Death by PowerPoint.” We look forward to watching his congressional career meet a similar end at the hands of the seasoned and popular Clark!
