Sen. Cantwell stands up for tech jobs in Washington state
We know the drill by now: Republicans like to talk about jobs, but if you actually want something done about job creation, then you need a Democrat. Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington is a perfect example: she understands the dangerous economic ramifications of the budget proposed by the GOP, which threatens both specific jobs and the growth of our economy overall.
A former tech executive herself, Cantwell knows that federal investments are key to private-sector job growth and for our nation’s economic future. As she stated recently: "Nearly half of U.S. economic growth since 1945 can be attributed to investments in science and technology… Limiting the potential of innovative national technology research labs… is not the way to boost job creation or improve our international competitiveness.”
Cantwell sees the big picture: the federal investments she’s working to protect are part of the answer to our energy and environmental issues. "If we wish to solve our energy crisis, without having big impacts on our way of life, we are going to need complex, advanced technologies," she said. "These technologies cannot be developed overnight." Maria is playing the long game, for the sake of her constituents and our country.
While Republicans keep trying to defund programs based on ideology and an anti-woman agenda – accomplishing nothing in terms of jobs or solutions – EMILY’s List senators like Maria Cantwell are working hard for a better future for American families.
