Before the Campaign: Elizabeth Warren on EMILY's List [VIDEO]

The election is over. We know how it all ended up. But what if you could go back in time and be a fly on the wall when it all began? We dug up this video from our archives of EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock chatting with a woman who had just announced her candidacy a couple weeks prior: Elizabeth Warren.

The now Senator-elect told Stephanie about joining EMILY’s List early on:

EMILY’s List is the first political activity I ever engaged in other than voting. It must have been 25 years ago…I pulled out my checkbook and wrote, what was for me, a kind of whopping big check. I think it was $25 bucks and became a member, and signed on to this. But the whole notion -- there was someone who said, ‘It’s time. It’s time for women to be part of electoral office and we’re going to be there with them when they do that. We’re going to make that happen. You’re not on your own out there when you do this.’ And I had no clue that 25 years later I would end up in a place where the first two people I talked to seriously about thinking through the question of running for Senate would be you because of your role at EMILY’s List.

Little did Elizabeth know that 25 years later the EMILY’s List community – made up of hundreds of $25 donors just like she was in the beginning – would raise $1.25 million for her campaign, helping her become the first woman to represent Massachusetts in the Senate.

It begs the question: will one of EMILY’s List’s 2 million+ members be the “next Elizabeth Warren” in 2038? As Stephanie discussed with Elizabeth that day, “That thought that my $25 is going to make a difference for a woman running, maybe in a state far away, from a place you’ve never heard of.” That’s the power of the EMILY’s List community.

“To me, that’s what EMILY’s List is all about,” Elizabeth told Stephanie, “You know you’re not alone.”

I am so glad that joined

I am so glad that joined Emil's List and so happy of our results. It is amusing and funny (sort of) that the Republicans just don't understand why they lost. Their losing when they decided that a black democrat just was not going to stay in the White House. Their stone walling i in Congress was totally abhorred by many. And now Romney just can't shut up.

As a father of two daughters

As a father of two daughters and grandfather to three girls I am a proud donor to Emily's list. I would never think of limiting access to any job or elected office for my daughters or granddaughters. If more women were serving in congress we would have fewer wars, health care for everyone and the number of Americans living in poverty would be greatly reduced. Thank you Emily's list

Elizabeth Warren for President in 2016!

Other than President Obama, Elizabeth is the first candidate outside Oregon I have directly contributed to in my 55 years as a voter. She did more than knock my socks off at the convention, she convinced me we can indeed reclaim our nation, affirm our loftiest ideals, and move toward a brighter future for all Americans. Her WOW factor is off the chart!

thanks for well-done important work

thanks.
