1. What inspired you to go into politics?
Growing up, I always had an interest in American history and was lucky to have a mother who was passionate about public service and politics. In high school, I had an amazing teacher that really started me on this path, he showed me just how much our elected officials can make a difference.
2. What women are inspiring you today?
There are so many amazing trailblazers that I would love to follow in the footsteps of. I have always admired Gail Collins of the New York Times writing, and I'm inspired by the work that Louise Slaughter has done to extend health care benefits and protect reproductive rights. I also can't leave out Speaker Pelosi, Secretaries Clinton and Solis -- all the greats.
3. What is your most memorable moment in politics?
I think I first caught the political bug in 2000 during the Florida re-count. I can remember sitting in class arguing with friends of mine as to the constitutionality of these events. I knew then that either way, history would be made.
4. What blogs do you read each morning?
Think Progress, Slate's DoubleX, and I love to check the Atlantic Wire throughout my day.
5. If not politics, what would you be doing today?
I'd probably be struggling to open my own cafe. Cooking is my other passion (second to politics) and I've always wanted to open my own restaurant, a casual place where neighbors meet for lunch or coffee.
