The John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award is meant to recognize remarkable public servants -- people who go above and beyond to improve their communities and make a lasting difference. When we found out EMILY's List candidate Karen Bass was being honored with the award this year, we couldn't have imagined a better recipient.
Karen, who's running to fill the open seat of retiring Cong. Diane Watson in CA-33, received the award for her role in working to solve California's budget crisis as the state Assembly's speaker emeritus.
Here's what Karen had to say about the honor:
“What John F. Kennedy believed -- what this award promotes -- is that we can make things better,” said Bass. “That responsible government can be a force for good; that public officials can find the courage to do what’s right; that we can come together when it counts."
Karen's work to address the financial emergency and create a comprehensive response is just one of the many ways in which she has successfully fought to improve the lives of Californians. We couldn't be prouder to be part of her team in her current race.
