Announcing our Community Choice Contest Winners
The results are in!
We asked you and other EMILY's List members to weigh in on the candidates you think deserve extra fundraising help during these critical final weeks when it’s all on the line, and your response was overwhelming. The pollsters and the pundits have a lot to say about who is up and down, but the bottom line is that you're the force that drives EMILY's List -- and your opinion really matters.
And you sure know how to pick 'em. The candidates you chose are all in tight races where it's coming down to what happens in these next three weeks. They're all running great campaigns, and every single dollar their campaigns raise right now will be absolutely crucial to winning.
So here are the winners of the Community Choice Challenge -- women who will be winners on November 2, too -- if you can make a contribution right now. Click here to contribute to one, two, or all three of these candidates today.
BARBARA BOXER - U.S. Senate, California
She's not just a favorite of EMILY's List members -- Democrats everywhere know that Senator Boxer is an outspoken champion for women and the environment. And that's exactly why Republicans are so intent on defeating her. She's fought for us -- and now we need to rally for her. The news in this race changes every day, but one thing is clear: while polling shows Boxer with a very slight edge right now, this race is too close to call. The GOP just increased their spending on attack ads, bringing the total so far to $3 million. That's on top of the ads that groups like Karl Rove's American Crossroads are running night and day across the state. And on top of that, Boxer's opponent, Carly Fiorina, is flooding the airwaves with her own ads -- the same Fiorina who is the failed former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, calls climate change "the weather," and pledged to make abortion illegal. Early voting is already underway, and Boxer needs your help today to keep getting her message out to voters and run an aggressive campaign to get her supporters to the polls.
BETSY MARKEY - U.S. House, Colorado-04
EMILY's List members helped Cong. Markey score an incredible win over ultra-conservative Cong. Marilyn Musgrave in 2008 -- and now the GOP wants payback. The third-party ads are flying, with national Republicans pouring money into television ads attacking Markey. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which has already spent more than $500,000, just announced that more help is on the way for her opponent, state Rep. Cory Gardner. And the tea party is sure to brew up some trouble of its own -- Gardner, who's also been endorsed by Sarah Palin, is one of their favorites. Markey's been called one of the most vulnerable freshman, but the polls show her support growing. The race is still within the margin of error and probably won't break until right before election day. Markey needs your help today to keep getting her message out to voters and counter the blizzard of third-party attack ads.
TARRYL CLARK - U.S. House, Minnesota-06
I don't know about you, but I dream of what the U.S. House would be like without Cong. Michele Bachmann carrying water for the Far Right. Tarryl Clark is just the candidate who can make our dreams come true. She's an experienced legislator and she's running a great campaign. But news just broke that Bachmann, who's heading the newly formed Congressional Tea Party Caucus, raised a whopping $3.4 million in the last three months alone -- and she's spending it freely in these final weeks. Clark will need every dollar to defend herself against Bachmann's relentless attack ads. The good news is that Minnesotans seem to be tiring of Bachmann's vise-like grip on the national spotlight and her extreme positions: polls show Clark's support growing as election day approaches. Clark needs your help today to continue building the momentum she'll need to topple Bachmann in these final weeks.
These women have really earned our support -- and they're working incredibly hard every day to win these tough races. Your support can really make a difference for them in these final weeks of the campaign. Thanks for all you're doing as part of the EMILY's List community.
