What goes hand-in-hand with birthday cake? Why, a little GOTV.

Florida gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink celebrated her birthday on Saturday by hitting the pavement with students from the University of Central Florida to get out the vote for the 2010 election.

“The win is in your hands, in your involvement.” Alex told volunteers as they headed out to make sure Sunshine State voters stay engaged in this year’s critical elections.

The grassroots event was aimed at mobilizing Floridians who registered to vote after the 2008 presidential primary and getting them out to the polls again this November. And for Alex, who’s in a tough race to become this battleground state’s first woman governor, that first-time voting bloc will be hugely important to a Democratic victory.
