A Strong Voice For Illinois -- In More Ways than One

Here at EMILY's List, we have supported some incredible female candidates -- mothers, teachers, lawyers, and the list goes on. Still, there is always a first time for everything -- even our first bluegrass bassoon player.

Our Political Opportunity Program (POP) endorsed former country prosecutor Sheila Simon for Lt. Governor of Illinois. Sheila is an accomplished advocate for domestic violence prevention and government ethics reform -- serving on the Illinois Reform Coalition.

But when Sheila is not campaigning, you can probably find her at a gig with her all female bluegrass band, where she plays the bassoon and contributes vocals. Check out the band's website here.

Whether playing a country fair or standing on the steps of the state house in Springfield, Sheila will certainly be a strong voice for all of Illinois and a candidate our POP program can be proud of.
