We couldn’t have put it better ourselves, Deb.

Vermont gubernatorial candidate Deb Markowitz has been featured in The Burlington Free Press for unique style and determination to get things done.

As the article tells, she shines in all types of situations and has consistently won support for her "get it done" philosophy. It’s that kind of attitude that has made her a stand out as Vermont Secretary of State, where she helped pass an improved voter registration law allowing for same-day registration during early voting, and worked to create a program to prevent victims of domestic abuse from being tracked down by their abusers. But she won over a local business owner's support with more than just savvy policy;

[It was] a snowy night at a house party in Jericho after Markowitz met with some members of Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility. The gathering broke up and Mayer’s wife began backing down the steep, slick driveway, only to slide into a ditch. “I’m digging snow and pushing,” Mayer recounted. “And there’s 4-foot, 9-inch Deb Markowitz waist deep in the snow, pushing on the car.” He said he had been looking for a gubernatorial candidate who could connect with Vermonters, connect with people in business and not put on airs. “That was a great indication of the kind of person she is.”

On August 24th, Deb will compete in a crowded Democratic primary for the party's gubernatorial nomination. If elected in November, we are sure that Deb will continue to work for the people, to expand the rights of women and to help bolster our pipeline. After all, her campaign for the governor's mansion is fulfilling a promise she once made as a young student;

Markowitz frequently tells the story of how she came to get advice from former Gov. Madeleine Kunin that inspired her to take a chance in this year’s gubernatorial free-for-all. Kunin ate frequently at Pauline’s Cafe where Markowitz worked during her college years.

Kunin had already made her first bid to become governor and lost when the pair ran into each other at the airport. Kunin gave Markowitz a ride to her apartment. During the trip, Markowitz said she gushed to Kunin about her being a role model for women. Kunin responded that women need to take risks if they want to sit at the head of the table. “She made me promise her if I ever had the opportunity, I would take the risk.”

We couldn't be more proud to stand with her today as she makes good on that promise.
