Why should YOU EMpower?
Because it is time for our generation of women and men to stand tall and use our networks, our tweeting and our texting, our skills, and yes, our resources, to ensure that representative government in this country really is representative.
Because we have the power to ensure that our sisters, our mothers, our daughters, and our friends have the chance to be the kind of mayors, legislators, and executives, that can change the world.
Members of EMpower will have the opportunity to meet candidates and elected officials at regional EMpower receptions and national events; network with other politically engaged, professional women and men at events and through our interactive website; and work directly with the EMpower Team to create new opportunities to grow the program, help identify rising stars, and be part of creating the next generation of emerging leaders!
In 1985, 25 women gathered in a basement, rolodexes in hand, to send letters to their friends about a network they were forming to raise money for pro-choice Democratic women candidates. Today, EMILY's List is one of the nation's largest and most successful political action committees.
But the fight isn't over, and while the tools are different, the mission remains the same. It's time to EMpower the next generation of Democratic women. It's our time.
EMpower is a place to network, to learn about candidates throughout the country, to collaborate, and to see our individual and collective impact make a real difference.
If you believe in young leaders in communities across this country -- join now by contributing $100 to EMILY's List and commit to contribute $50 to two EMILY's List candidates of your choice before the election.
At 42, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is the youngest member of the U.S. Senate and one of the few with small children at home. Prior to her election, she helped found the Women’s Leadership Forum Network to encourage women under 40 to get involved in politics.
